Checkout.com, a global payments processor, has entered the in-person payments market through a partnership with Mollie, a European platform serving over 350,000 merchants. The expansion, announced October 20, responds to enterprise merchant demand for unified online and offline payment processing through a single acquiring relationship.

  • Global payment volume: Checkout.com projected to process $480 billion in global ecommerce payments in 2026
  • Feature velocity: 150+ merchant-facing features launched over the past 12 months, supported by 500 code releases daily
  • Technical performance: Multi-region infrastructure with sub-500ms latency and direct scheme connectivity
  • Launch timeline: In-person payments rolling out first in the UK and EEA, followed by the US, with additional schemes and markets planned for next year

Checkout.com adopted a device-agnostic, software-led approach to in-person payments, allowing merchants to use existing terminals or select hardware that suits their operations. The solution integrates with Mollie‘s proprietary hardware and point-of-sale software while running on Checkout.com‘s acquiring platform. Both companies retain strategic control: Mollie manages customer experience and hardware decisions, while Checkout.com provides enterprise-grade processing infrastructure.

The unified platform enables merchants to process in-person and online transactions through a single contract and settlement infrastructure, sharing the same API, dashboard, and reconciliation tools. The expansion follows Checkout.com‘s announcement of sustained profitability and growing margins, providing capacity for new technology investments.

This expansion follows our earlier announcement of sustained profitability and growing margins, giving us the capacity to invest in new technologies and segments. Our merchants know Checkout.com for our speed, reliability and pace of innovation, and they asked us to bring that to in-person payments. Our job is to go where they need us most.

– Antoine Nougué, Chief Revenue Officer, Checkout.com

Our obsession has always been delivering the simplest, highest-performing product for our customers.
