Revolut has received its operating licence from Colombia’s Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC), clearing the final regulatory hurdle for the fintech company to launch banking operations in the South American country. The approval marks Revolut‘s sixth full banking licence globally, following authorizations in the UK, France, Australia, Lithuania, and Mexico. The company serves over 80 million customers worldwide and has approximately 200,000 Colombians on its waitlist ahead of launch.

  • Group Revenue (2025): US$6 billion (46% year-on-year increase)
  • Pre-tax Profit (2025): US$2.3 billion
  • Total Customer Balances: US$67.5 billion
  • Consecutive Years of Net Profitability: Five
  • Customer Base Target: 100 million by mid-2027

The licence enables Revolut to operate as a fully regulated bank in Colombia and offer a comprehensive suite of financial products. The company has met strict regulatory capital requirements set by the SFC, and customer deposits will be protected under Fogafín, Colombia’s deposit insurance scheme. Revolut intends to focus on cross-border money transfers and remittances, addressing what the company describes as longstanding inefficiencies in the Colombian financial system.

Revolut has accelerated its international expansion throughout 2026, securing banking licences in France, Australia, and the UK this year alone. The company has also obtained conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for a national bank charter, received a payments licence in the UAE, and gained an Organisation Licence from Peru’s banking superintendency. The Colombian launch represents part of a broader strategy to expand regulated banking services across emerging and developed markets.
