TradingView has introduced alert capabilities for its long and short position drawings, enabling traders to monitor entry, stop-loss, and take-profit levels simultaneously via a single notification system. The feature addresses a longstanding limitation where position drawings mapped price levels but could not trigger alerts, forcing traders to either monitor charts continuously or duplicate levels with separate alerts.
- Covered Levels: Entry, stop loss, and take profit
- Alert Behavior: Triggers upon entry fill, continues monitoring exits, restarts if drawing is edited
- Message Content: Includes ticker, level, price, quantity, and profit/loss data by default
- Setup Steps: Draw position, right-click to add alert via menu or toolbar, customize message, create alert
The alert system operates continuously across the trade lifecycle. Once an entry is triggered, the alert notifies the trader while remaining active to monitor exit levels. If a stop loss or profit target is hit, the trader receives a second notification before the alert terminates. The functionality also accommodates traders who have already reached their entry price, allowing them to continue monitoring exit levels in such scenarios.
Position drawings remain among the platform’s most-used tools because they consolidate entire trade plans, including position sizing and risk-reward ratios, into a single visual element. The alert feature eliminates the need for duplicate horizontal lines and separate alert configurations, reducing manual setup errors. Alerts automatically synchronize with any modifications to the underlying drawing, restarting with updated values when levels are adjusted.
