Sumsub, an identity verification and AML screening provider, has partnered with MarCoPay, a Philippines-based electronic payments platform serving seafarers, to deploy integrated fraud prevention and compliance controls. The partnership addresses escalating fraud threats in the country and supports compliance with the Philippines’ Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), which took effect in June 2026.

  • Deepfake attacks in the Philippines: Up 61% year-on-year in 2025
  • Global coordinated fraud rise: 180% year-on-year increase
  • Identity documents supported: Over 14,000 types from 220+ countries
  • AML data sources: More than 50,000 across 240+ territories

MarCoPay will use Sumsub‘s document-based identity verification, liveness detection, and AML screening to secure customer onboarding and ongoing compliance. The liveness detection technology creates a 3D FaceMap to confirm physical presence during verification and references it for authorizing logins and transactions, defending against deepfakes and AI-enabled impersonation. Transaction monitoring through rule-based fraud detection and dynamic risk scoring will enable MarCoPay to identify and respond to suspicious activity while supporting fund-recovery processes required under AFASA.

This partnership strengthens our ability to deliver safe and secure services. With enhanced security, we aim to better serve Filipino seafarers and our business partners.

– Hayato Kiyohara, CEO, MarCoPay

AFASA is reshaping how financial institutions in the Philippines approach fraud prevention, placing greater focus on connected controls across the customer lifecycle. Our partnership with MarCoPay reflects Sumsub’s commitment to supporting Philippine businesses as the compliance landscape evolves.

– Penny Chai, Vice President, APAC, Sumsub
