Standard Chartered has appointed LMAX Group as its first client to onboard onto its newly authorized digital asset custody platform in Luxembourg, expanding their partnership beyond prime brokerage services. The announcement, made on September 16, 2026, follows Standard Chartered’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization in June 2026 and establishes dual custody access through the bank’s DFSA-regulated Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch and Standard Chartered Luxembourg S.A.

  • Authorization: Standard Chartered MiCA approval in June 2026
  • Custody Locations: Luxembourg and Dubai International Financial Centre
  • Previous Collaboration: First live digital asset prime brokerage trades executed in July 2026
  • First Client: LMAX Group inaugural onboarder to Standard Chartered Luxembourg platform

The expanded custody arrangement builds on a successful collaboration announced in July 2026, when the firms executed what they describe as the industry’s first live digital asset prime brokerage trades. Standard Chartered combined its banking, credit, and custody capabilities with LMAX Group’s regulated, institutional-grade digital asset market infrastructure. The dual appointments provide LMAX Group with regulated custody solutions across key international financial centres, supporting its institutional client base across Europe and the Middle East.

As institutional clients continue to scale their digital asset businesses, they need trusted infrastructure that can operate seamlessly across markets and regulatory regimes.

Looking forward, Standard Chartered and LMAX Group are exploring off-exchange custody solutions designed to combine bank-grade security with seamless access to institutional digital asset liquidity. The initiative targets a critical industry gap: enabling market participants to trade digital assets while maintaining custody with a regulated financial institution. The firms say the development aims to support the next phase of institutional adoption through enhanced security, operational efficiency, and risk management. LMAX Group operates a global cross-asset marketplace for foreign exchange and digital assets, while Standard Chartered is a multinational banking group with operations across developed and emerging markets.
