Coinbase is reducing trading fees for active traders across its Advanced platform, effective September 16th, with entry-level tier qualification dropping from $25,000 to $10,000 in trading volume. The crypto exchange is consolidating fee structures across spot and derivatives trading in eligible jurisdictions while introducing a new qualification pathway for traders holding USDC on the platform.

  • Entry-Level Tier Threshold: Reduced to $10,000 from $25,000
  • US Spot Fees: 0.50% maker & 0.90% taker
  • EU & UK Spot Fees: 0.25% maker & 0.50% taker
  • Emerging Markets Fees: 0.09% maker & 0.10% taker (Brazil, India)
  • VIP8 Spot Trading: As low as 0bps/2bps
  • Effective Date: September 16th, 2024

The restructured fee model consolidates volume tiers across both spot and derivatives markets, allowing traders to qualify using whichever criteria, volume or balance, proves most favorable to them. Coinbase One members retain their unlimited 3.5% annual percentage yield on USDC holdings. The platform also introduced a Status Match program to fast-track traders with existing VIP status at competing exchanges.

Additional product changes include commission-free US stock trading and equity perpetual futures contracts, with promotional pricing for Equity Perps at 0bps maker and 1bps taker rates. Eligible international derivatives markets now feature maker rebates reaching 0.4bps at higher VIP tiers.

Advanced clients need deep liquidity, reliable execution and broad market access. As we scale the Everything Exchange globally, we’re focused not only on expanding the instruments customers can trade with Coinbase, but on helping clients scale their multi-asset trading more easily.

The fee restructuring reflects Coinbase‘s competitive positioning in the active trading segment as global crypto exchanges intensify pricing competition. Coinbase is a major U.S. cryptocurrency exchange regulated by the SEC and FINRA, offering spot and derivatives trading across multiple asset classes.
