AJ Bell has appointed Rob Burdett as independent chair of its Investment Committee, replacing Jim Sutcliffe, who is retiring after leading the committee since AJ Bell Investments launched in 2016. Burdett brings over 30 years of multi-manager and fund selection experience, currently serving as head of multi-manager at Nedgroup Investments.
- Assets under management: Over £11 billion as of June 2026
- Investment Committee launch: 2016
- Previous roles held by Burdett: Rothschild Asset Management, Thames River, BMO Global Asset Management, Columbia Threadneedle, and Credit Suisse
In his new role, Burdett will oversee governance and risk management of AJ Bell‘s fund range and managed portfolio service, including investment strategy, asset allocation decisions, and manager selection. He will partner with the investment team to maintain performance standards across the firm’s advised and direct-to-consumer offerings.
Michael Summersgill, AJ Bell CEO, stated that the Investment Committee chair holds critical responsibility for independent oversight of investment decisions. “Rob’s depth of experience, knowledge and independent perspective will be invaluable as we continue to grow our highly successful investments business,” he said, adding that Sutcliffe’s contributions to the business over the past decade have been substantial.
I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of independent chair of the AJ Bell Investment Committee. I have long admired AJ Bell from afar and look forward to working more closely with them via the committee.
Burdett added that he will leverage his extensive multi-asset experience to provide counsel and challenge during quarterly committee meetings. AJ Bell Investments, the investment arm of the UK fintech firm, has expanded significantly since its 2016 inception, delivering low-cost products and solutions to both professional and retail investors.
