BUX, the European investment platform and challenger brand of ABN AMRO, has appointed Juha Ristolainen as Chief Technology Officer. Ristolainen brings 25 years of software development experience and 15 years in executive leadership roles, with extensive expertise in financial technology infrastructure and scaling engineering teams across Europe and the US.
- Previous roles: Co-Founder and former CTO of Upvest; CTO at Alpaca
- Key expertise: High-scale fintech infrastructure, product agility, institutional security
- Current focus: Engineering and product strategy for BUX’s cross-country savings proposition
At Upvest, Ristolainen built backend investment infrastructure for major neobanks and brokers across Europe while navigating complex regulatory approvals from BaFin for investment and crypto-custody licensing. During his tenure at Alpaca, he scaled the broker-dealer API infrastructure globally and expanded the engineering organisation to support growth.
BUX has made investing simple and accessible, and now we’re extending that same clarity to savings across our markets, always built around what customers need. This is the kind of work that first drew me into fintech, and I’m glad to be doing it with a team that’s this curious and customer-focused.
Ristolainen will lead the platform through a critical growth phase as BUX expands its investment offering with a comprehensive savings solution. The integration enables clients to manage both investments and savings within a single application. BUX’s investment suite includes shares, stocks, ETFs, and ETCs, alongside pre-built Investment Plans for automated investing.
