Sumsub, an AI-powered trust infrastructure platform for compliance operations, announced the launch of the Sumsub Agentic AI Council, an Asia-Pacific cross-sector forum designed to develop practical frameworks and advance responsible deployment of autonomous AI systems. The Council is now accepting applications from leaders and experts in policy, academia, technology, industry and civil society to serve as founding advisors, with the inaugural meeting scheduled for Q1 2027.

  • APAC Consumer AI Usage: Nearly three-quarters of APAC consumers already use AI to discover, compare, and research products
  • Business AI Adoption: 95% of businesses are using or piloting multi-step AI systems with limited human input
  • Council Pillars: Adopt, Build, and Govern frameworks covering agent identity, delegated authority, interoperability, and auditability
  • Initial Focus: First working group expected to concentrate on agentic commerce applications

The Council addresses a critical inflection point in AI development. As AI agents evolve from experimental tools into systems capable of planning, decision-making, and autonomous action, recent incidents have demonstrated how these systems can operate beyond their intended scope. Regional governments have begun signaling regulatory intent: Singapore’s Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI, Mainland China’s standards development efforts for AI agent identity, Hong Kong’s 2026 Policy Address proposal for safety guidelines, and the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong’s exploration of AI agent guidance in financial services all underscore the regulatory momentum.

The opportunity presented by agentic AI is becoming clearer with every new use case, but the conditions for responsible adoption in environments with real financial, operational and regulatory consequences are still taking shape, even as they become increasingly business-critical.

– Jason Chan, APAC Government Relations Lead, Sumsub

Sustainable adoption, however, will depend not only on what these systems can do, but also on how confidently organizations can deploy and govern them. The Council will create a platform where experts from different disciplines can share perspectives and help advance approaches that support the responsible development of agentic AI.

– Mick Amelishko, AI Advocate, Sumsub

The Council will operate across three workstreams. The Adopt pillar will explore responsible applications across compliance, fraud prevention, customer experience and operational efficiency. Build will advance technical foundations including agent identity, verifiable credentials, secure architectures and traceability. Govern will address policies, standards and accountability mechanisms as AI systems gain autonomy. Sumsub has already developed proprietary tools aligned with these areas, including its Summy AI Copilot, Know Your Agent (KYA) framework, and MCP integration capabilities.

Sumsub provides AI-powered trust infrastructure for compliance operations at scale, serving organizations across verification, fraud prevention, and compliance workflows.
