Coinbase and Stablecore announced a partnership enabling community and regional banks and credit unions to offer digital asset services, including custody, trading, and stablecoin payments, through their existing banking platforms. The collaboration integrates with current technology infrastructure rather than requiring institutions to rebuild systems, making digital asset offerings accessible to over 3,000 U.S. banks and credit unions. Amarillo National Bank in Texas is already participating in the initiative.

  • Services offered: Digital asset custody, trading, stablecoin payments, tokenized deposits, and staking
  • Platform integration: Core banking systems, digital banking platforms, and compliance systems
  • Target institutions: 3,000+ community and regional banks and credit unions
  • Coinbase role: Provides regulated digital asset infrastructure and exchange services

The partnership addresses a critical challenge for smaller financial institutions seeking to modernize without abandoning legacy systems. Stablecore manages integrations across existing technology platforms, while Coinbase provides the underlying regulated infrastructure. Banking customers can buy, sell, hold, and make payments with digital assets directly through their institution’s existing banking experience.

Community banks and credit unions shouldn’t have to choose between staying local and staying current. Together with Stablecore we are helping put them on the cutting edge of payments technology – cheaper, faster money movement, and the tools they need to stay strong for the communities they serve.

The initiative allows regional and community institutions to compete with larger banks by offering digital asset services under their own brand while maintaining customer relationships locally. As digital assets become integral to financial systems, the partnership demonstrates how smaller institutions can modernize infrastructure for the next decade without significant technology overhauls.
