Rest Capital, a UK-based treasury platform for businesses, has launched money market funds (MMFs), giving smaller companies access to government-backed investment options for surplus cash. The launch, powered by Alpaca‘s brokerage infrastructure and its WealthKernel platform, addresses a gap in cash management tools for businesses without dedicated treasury functions.

  • Product: Money market funds investing in government or government-backed debt instruments
  • Founded: Rest Capital launched in 2025
  • Technology: API-first brokerage infrastructure enabling automated cash sweeps
  • Regulator: Alpaca Europe (WealthKernel) authorised by the FCA

The platform allows businesses to connect existing bank accounts, establish rules for available cash reserves, and automatically transfer eligible surplus into MMFs through Rest’s interface. Joe Kemsley, founder of Rest, attributed the timing to three key developments: the maturation of open banking infrastructure, consumer normalisation of digital financial institutions, and advances in treasury management technology.

Alpaca’s API-first infrastructure gives us streamlined access to MMFs and has been very easy to integrate. Rather than building the brokerage and investment infrastructure from the ground up, we can use Alpaca’s existing infrastructure and technical support to build institutional-grade products.

Rest maintains the customer relationship and treasury workflow while leveraging Alpaca’s backend capabilities. The MMF offering represents the foundation for a broader full-stack treasury platform, with plans to expand into additional treasury functions. Alpaca is an agent-first brokerage infrastructure provider, while WealthKernel Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under reference 723719.
