SIX reported robust trading activity across its Swiss and Spanish markets in August 2026, with combined turnover reaching CHF 125.9 billion, a 19.5% year-on-year increase from August 2025. SIX Swiss Exchange posted 15.9% growth to CHF 87.3 billion, while BME Exchange in Spain delivered stronger performance at 28.8% growth, trading EUR 41.2 billion during the month.

Exchange-traded funds continued to drive momentum across both markets. ETFs generated the strongest growth segment on the SIX Swiss Exchange, while Spanish ETF trading surpassed the EUR 1.0 billion year-to-date turnover milestone three months earlier than in 2025. Allianz Global Investors joined as a new ETF issuer in August, launching four products and bringing the total number of ETF issuers on the Swiss exchange to 37.

Spain’s flagship index demonstrated exceptional strength during the month. The IBEX 35 breached the 20,000-point threshold on August 4 and reached an all-time high of 20,356.5 points on August 13, underscoring its position as one of Europe’s best-performing major indices in 2026. At month-end, the index settled at 19,974.0 points, up 1.0% for August. Switzerland’s SMI declined marginally by 0.4% to 14,286.4 points during the reporting period.
