Sumsub launched its Fraud Prevention Starter Kit on Tuesday, offering pre-built fraud risk decisioning for companies whose growth outpaces their fraud detection capabilities. The tool addresses a market shift where sophisticated fraud attacks combining multiple techniques rose 180% over the past year, while overall identity fraud rates declined from 2.6% to 2.2%, indicating that fraud has transformed from a volume problem into a quality one.

  • Global identity fraud rate: Declined from 2.6% to 2.2% year-over-year
  • Sophisticated attack growth: Up 180% combining multiple fraud techniques
  • Risk classifications: Low, medium, or high risk assessments per applicant
  • Access status: Closed launch with early-access applications available

Traditional Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks verify identity but do not establish whether an applicant poses a risk. Building a dedicated fraud function typically requires months of development and staff hiring that growing companies lack. The Starter Kit collects signals already present in onboarding flows, including email footprint, phone risk, IP indicators, device intelligence, and known fraud patterns, and weights them through a pre-built matrix to deliver a single risk classification with a prescribed action: approve, step up, review, or block.

The system enriches signals through existing Sumsub verification flows, WebSDK, mobile SDK, API, or pre-KYC integrations. When new applicants share devices, contact details, or other identifiers with previously confirmed fraudsters, those connections inform subsequent assessments. Teams can adapt predefined rules and thresholds as their fraud operations mature, or existing fraud functions can layer the Starter Kit’s signals into their current decision-making processes.

Nobody gets to choose when fraud shows up. It arrives with a new market, a referral campaign or a good growth quarter, and it usually arrives before anyone has been hired to deal with it. Until now, the choice was to spend months building a fraud function or to absorb the losses while you did. We wanted a third option.

Andrew Novoselsky, Chief Product Officer at Sumsub, highlighted the timing challenge: fraudsters target growth periods when companies lack internal fraud expertise. The Starter Kit enters closed launch, with early-access applications available at sumsub.com/fraud-prevention-starter-kit/. Sumsub has spent a decade building identity verification and fraud prevention infrastructure used across digital onboarding workflows.
