tastytrade announced full support for Cboe Global Trading Hours (GTH) on August 10, 2026, enabling retail traders to access index options trading nearly around the clock. The Chicago-based online brokerage now offers extended trading sessions for S&P 500 Index, Cboe Volatility Index, Mini-SPX, and Russell 2000 Index options, allowing customers to react to market-moving events outside traditional trading hours.

  • GTH Session Hours: 8:15 p.m. ET to 9:25 a.m. ET Sunday through Friday
  • Curb Session Hours: 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday
  • Eligible Products: SPX, VIX, XSP, and RUT index options
  • Market Share: GTH volume represents over 4% of total SPX options volume

The extended trading capability addresses the timing mismatch between economic data releases and market opens. Reports such as Consumer Price Index and Producer Price Index figures often arrive before regular trading begins, and international developments can influence U.S. markets overnight. By offering near-24-hour access, tastytrade enables its customers to execute trades immediately when news breaks rather than waiting until the following session.

The platform integrates GTH functionality directly into tastytrade’s existing infrastructure, maintaining the same order ticket, workflow, and time-in-force options across desktop and mobile applications. Pete Mulmat, Head of Brokerage at tastytrade/IGNA, noted that institutional traders have historically held exclusive access to overnight sessions. tastytrade’s customer base already demonstrates significant engagement with index options; Mini-SPX ranks in the platform’s top 10 products despite sitting outside the top 40 industry-wide.

The launch aligns with accelerating overnight trading volumes. Cboe has reported consecutive monthly records in GTH activity, with volume climbing from approximately 3% to over 4% of total SPX options volume in recent months. tastytrade plans to extend similar capabilities to single stock options during earnings season. Educational support will be provided through tastylive, tastytrade’s affiliate network, with dedicated GTH programming launching across its platforms.

Institutional traders have always had access to the overnight session, and we’re putting that same capability in the hands of the active retail traders who will actually use it.
