EasyEquities has reached 300,000 funded Tax-Free Savings Accounts (TFSAs) among its user base, highlighting significant adoption of South Africa’s most tax-efficient investment vehicle. However, the milestone underscores a broader challenge: more than 1.3 million of the platform’s users have yet to establish or fully fund a TFSA, leaving substantial tax savings on the table.
- Annual contribution limit: R46,000
- Lifetime contribution limit: R500,000
- Tax benefits: Zero capital gains tax, dividends tax, or income tax on returns
- Available instruments: Over 100 ETFs including global indices and local JSE-focused funds
- S&P 500 historical return: 11.18% annualised over 20 years (with dividends reinvested)
- Users who maxed contributions (since 1 March 2026): 16,900+
According to data from the platform, consistent investment through TFSAs compounds significantly over time. At the S&P 500’s historical 11.18% annualised return, an investor contributing the full R46,000 annually could accumulate approximately R3.2 million over 20 years or R10.5 million over 30 years, entirely tax-free. The platform identified 16 clients with TFSA balances exceeding R1 million, with an average age of 63, demonstrating the long-term wealth-building capacity of disciplined investing within the account structure.
The Satrix MSCI World ETF, tracking over 1,500 companies across 23 developed markets, emerged as the largest holding by value across EasyEquities TFSA accounts, indicating investor preference for globally diversified, long-term positions. The platform’s analysis shows that 63% of millionaire TFSA account holders are male, with 37% female, suggesting the wealth-building tool spans diverse demographics.
EasyEquities, an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP no. 22588), operates as a retail investment platform offering stocks, ETFs, and other instruments to South African investors. The company emphasised that past performance does not guarantee future returns, and noted that contributions remain subject to both annual and lifetime limits.
