EasyEquities‘ asset management division is broadening its AI investment thesis beyond the familiar names of chipmakers and model developers, instead targeting opportunities across the entire infrastructure chain supporting artificial intelligence deployment. Shaun Krom, Chief Investment Officer at EasyAssetManagement, explained the firm’s approach to identifying where capital flows in the AI ecosystem and which businesses are best positioned to capture value as the technology matures.

  • Investment Focus Areas: Data centre construction, power systems, cooling infrastructure, advanced networking, and specialist manufacturing
  • Portfolio Themes: AI, technology-enabled defence, industrialisation, and financial services
  • Selection Criteria: Balance sheet strength, margins, revenue growth, competitive advantages, management quality, and supply chain positioning
  • Current Phase: Shift from infrastructure spending to AI adoption by end-users seeking cost reduction and operational efficiency

The investment team identifies themes by tracing capital flows, then evaluates individual companies within those sectors based on fundamental metrics rather than generic AI exposure. EasyAssetManagement does not automatically invest in every AI-linked business; instead, it concentrates positions in companies with the strongest economics and competitive positioning. The firm’s streamlined structure enables faster decision-making and reduces the groupthink risks common in larger investment committees, potentially creating more concentrated portfolios with outsized returns when conviction plays succeed.

Early AI spending has primarily benefited infrastructure suppliers, but Krom flagged the next phase: companies deploying AI to reduce costs and improve operations. He cited a logistics business that compressed multi-day quote preparation into seconds through AI implementation—a measurable outcome yielding faster service and lower operating costs. As cheaper AI models emerge, demand for supporting infrastructure may persist even if the value distribution shifts within the supply chain, underscoring the importance of understanding specific business functions rather than relying on AI labels alone.

Recent AI stock volatility reflects profit-taking and concerns over cheaper models cannibalising developer revenues, but Krom does not view the sell-off as invalidating the broader AI investment case. Lower-cost technology typically drives increased adoption, potentially sustaining demand for chips, data centres, networking, and power infrastructure. EasyAssetManagement integrates AI exposure with positions in technology-enabled defence and industrialisation, where overlapping supply chains and capabilities create diversified exposure to advanced computing, manufacturing infrastructure, and project financing demands.
