The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) has issued an investor alert regarding Newcomer Guide – Due Diligence, a fraudulent operation using the website newcomerguide.weebly.com to deceive investors by falsely claiming affiliation with CIRO and legitimate investment firms.
- Alert Date: October 26, 2026
- Fraudulent Website: newcomerguide.weebly.com
- Scam Method: Falsely references CIRO and regulated firms to appear credible
- Reporting Contact: 1-877-442-4322 (Canada/US)
Fraudsters frequently exploit the names and reputations of trusted regulatory organizations to mislead investors into believing investment schemes are legitimate. CIRO emphasized that a reference to the regulator or a CIRO-regulated firm does not validate an investment opportunity. Investors reviewing online opportunities should verify claims independently before committing funds.
Investors can confirm the legitimacy of anyone claiming to represent CIRO through the organization’s Complaints & Inquiries team. All individuals and firms authorized to offer financial advice in Canada appear on the National Registration Search maintained by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). Victims of this or similar schemes should immediately contact their bank, local police, their provincial securities commission, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Those targeted by operators claiming CIRO regulation should report the matter directly to CIRO.
CIRO is Canada’s pan-Canadian self-regulatory organization overseeing investment dealers, mutual fund dealers, and trading activity on Canadian debt and equity markets.
